Archives For wedding

It’s just over two weeks till I get married to the woman of my dreams so I decided to write a few posts on the joys (or pains) of wedding planning. I must first state that I have not done a lot of the wedding planning. That award goes to my beautiful bride to be and my wonderful almost mother-in-law. <– she hates that term. What I am saying is, Erika and mom have done an amazing job planning and here’s my thoughts. Enjoy!

My first bit of wedding planning advice for anyone planning a wedding or just complaining about a wedding. When you plan YOUR wedding, DO WHATEVER THE HECK YOU WANT! <– read this statement over and over and over…now once more.

If you want to do something traditional or nothing even close to traditional, DO IT! If you want to wear a white dress or a black dress, DO IT! If you want a fire eating clown for entertainment, DO IT! Hire one ASAP! Do it and don’t care what ANYONE has to say…expect the person you are going to marry of course, and maybe if someone else is paying for it. You two should agree on things.

If you aren’t the one planning your wedding. Keep your wonderful opinions to yourself. You are probably just jealous someone else is planning a wedding and you are not. That’s fine…just don’t vocalize your own frustrations to anyone (especially the bride), except maybe your counselor. You should probably talk to them.

Let the bride and groom enjoy THEIR day. Let them enjoy THEIR planning. Let them do what THEY want to. Let your opinions and traditions sit in YOUR stomach and be happy for your friends! Hopefully they will be happy for your big day as well.

Thanks for reading! Part two coming next week!

Wedding Winning

Charlie Sheen thinks he knows a thing or two about winning…I don’t buy it. Here is my version of winning.

Winning is when you are going to Baltimore/Washington DC next week for a wedding. Phil’s wedding. Phil was my youth leader growing up and I am in his wedding now…super pumped!

I fly to Washington DC on Thursday. Going to see the White House and all that fun stuff Friday morning. Then I am driving to Baltimore for the rehearsal/dinner that night. Saturday is the wedding. Sunday I might find a church to spy on in the morning and then I am off to a baseball game in Baltimore. I am super pumped about adding Baltimore to the list of stadiums I’ve been to. After the game I head to the airport in Baltimore and fly home.

When will I sleep? I can sleep for a couple hours on the plane.

Here is the winning on top of the baseball game and one of my best friends getting married.

Winning is buying wedding shoes on Zappos for $49.99 and having a  $30.60 credit on your account that you didn’t know about and having $12.50 randomly in your PayPal account and getting free next day air shipping so you only pay $6.89 for your shoes and end up saving $43.10. Winning!

The next thing that winning is…is buying the pants and shirt online. You see when you go to JC Penney and try on the pants that cost $70 and the shirt that costs $40 you find out what size you wear. Then you go home and order the pants online for $34.99 and the shirt for $19.99. You do have to pay $27 for overnight shipping since you waited so long but you still win and save $28.11 over buying them in the store. Winning!

Next you rent a car with Southwest that is normally $23/day but you get it for $16/day plus you get double reward points. This saves you $21 and gets you closer to that free flight. Winning

Here is the major winning story. You go to priceline to book your hotel. Why? Cause last time you did it in Seattle you had a sweet room in downtown for $50 a night. So you tell priceline that you want to spend $60 to stay in downtown Washington DC in a really nice hotel. Priceline then tells you that you get to stay in the Marriott.

After finding this out you go to the Marriott site to check out the sweet hotel you just scored and see how much it would cost you to book the hotel straight from Marriott. Oh $349 for one night? That’s nice…I’ll take the $60 for my 400 square foot suite with a full kitchen saving me $289 thank you very much. Winning!

Now boys and girls…when you add up all my savings you get $381.21 of savings. Almost enough to buy that new iPad that I need really bad! Or not. Your savings just end up paying for your flight across the county on a Boeing Airplane with some peanuts and a coke and maybe an overpriced piece of airport pizza…and lots of good people watching. Winning!

See you soon Balitmore and DC!
